LSA has provided MEP and IT consulting services for Hills Pet Nutrition and their Science and Technology Center since its inception in the late 1980's. The Center incorporates nearly 30 research, office, animal housing, food production, laboratory and support structures in a campus environment. One primary function of the campus is to receive veterinarians and guests from across the country and introduce them to the activities and research at the technology center, followed by a walking tour of the campus. Most notable are the new state-of-the-art Canine and Feline Research facilities combining animal housing, dietary research and veterinary medicine.
All lighting is BMC controlled and with ambient sensing limits. There is a large central UPS system with battery back-up to provide clean power to meet all telecom data and temperature control requirements.
This dog facility required innovative research to achieve the criteria established by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. Types of building materials, piping, ductwork, lighting, acoustical treatment, redundancy and service were critical components of design.
This project included the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for an addition to the Lawrence Humane Society. Exam rooms and a shelter for cats and for dogs was designed.
