Heritage Park
LSA was commissioned to design Johnson County Parks and Recreation’s first totally Off-Grid Facility in Heritage Park, a multi-use sports and park venue in Lenexa, Kansas. This restroom facility is adjacent the well-attended dog recreation area and is to serve patrons visiting this section of Heritage Park. This prototype facility employs both passive and active solar heating with a south-facing water Trombe wall in addition to evacuated tube solar heating panels that store their claimed heat in a heat exchanger tank, which in turn, provides hot water to the radiant floor heating system. With electric service not in the immediate vicinity, photovoltaic panels are serving the facility’s power needs which include ventilation fans, fluorescent lights, the radiant floor pump, and controls. A battery bank allows this equipment to keep running during extended cloudy periods and at night. The County intends to use this as an educational tool as well as its primary purpose.
