Chiller Plant Improvement - Kansas State University
This project consisted of the installation of a new 1,000 ton absorption chiller and 1,000 ton packaged cooling tower. The motor was removed from an existing 1,000 ton centrifugal chiller and a steam turbine was installed. This new arrangement allowed the use of campus steam during the off-peak summer months to generate up to 2,000 tons of air conditioning. Exhaust from the new absorption machine is used to operate the turbine on the retrofitted machine.
