Washburn University - Whiting Field House / Petro Allied Health Center Remodel
The existing Whiting Hall building located on the north side of the Petro Allied Health Center building originally had 41,400 SF. An additional floor area will be added to increase the total square footage to 63,500. This project involves the mechanical , electrical, plumbing, fire protection, telecom and audio visual design for the remodel of this existing building. The structure will be complete with a mixed occupancy including an interior basketball court, 11,000 SF of fully-equipped weight room area, varsity football shower/locker rooms, laundry room, multiple classrooms, meeting rooms and general office space. The building will now be fully ADA accessible.
The HVAC design includes a roof-mounted air-cooled chiller, a hot water heating plant with a steam-to-hot water heat exchanger for all heating loads, and a summer boiler for VAV reheat when steam is unavailable. Indoor central station VAV air handlers and single zone VAV air handlers will provide air flow to the building. The electrical design includes separating the existing service fed from the Petro Allied Health Center building and providing a new dedicated service from the underground electrical distribution on campus. Audio visual and telecommunications design includes installation of overhead projectors, LCD displays, message boards, and a new fiber service from the existing campus distribution system.
The Petro Allied Health Center portion of the project includes a complete remodel of each varsity locker room facility, connecting into the existing MEP systems. In addition, a team meeting room with full audio/visual capabilities were provide at each locker room location.
