The Master Plan for the site includes the main Sanctuary, an educational building, and the original Multi-Purpose Room and Gathering Space. The owner desired an energy efficient project that was straightforward to maintain and met their budget. These criteria gave the design team a challenge for the first phase building that has a Multi-Purpose room that acts as the Sanctuary, office space, a kitchen, meeting rooms, and a gathering room that can be sub-divided into classrooms. In all, 20,000 square feet were constructed. The mechanical system was chosen for a quick payback and enough zones to provide a good comfort level for as many occupants as possible. A ground source heat pump system fit the criteria very well and the well field could be located under the parking area to avoid future phases. The wells were drilled to 200 feet and water circulated to individual units to either take away or add heat to the heat pump cycle. Electrical and fire protection systems were designed and sized to accommodate future additions. Lighting fixtures and lamp sources were chosen to be energy efficient and fit the austere style that was desired.
