Community Involvement

The United Way

Latimer, Sommers & Associates has been a participant of the United Way of Greater Topeka’s annual campaign for the past several years.  The company gives a corporate gift to the United Way out of our overall profit each year.  We also promote and encourage our employees to give to the United Way individually through pay roll deductions as well as recommend ways that they can serve the community through volunteering efforts, etc.

The United Way brings together people, companies and nonprofits to create positive sustainable change in our community.  We work to solve issues no single donor, charity, or government agency can handle alone.  By focusing on education, income and health, we help more children graduate and get stable jobs, help families become financially stable and improve the overall health of our community.

For more than 80 years, United Way has been serving the Greater Topeka area.  We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed and we believe in the potential of every human being.  Since 1980, United Way invested $105 million into the community.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

William Bassette and LSA have been long time supporters of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (Heart of America Chapter – Kansas City, KS).  Mr. Bassette and his family participated in the 10th Annual Trail Ride for the for the Cure benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 2010.  Please click here to see pictures of the event and for more information.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. More than 10 million Americans are unknowing, symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. CF occurs in one of every 3,900 live births and about 1,000 new cases of CF are diagnosed each year.

Since 1955, the mission of the CF Foundation is to assure the development of the means to cure and control CF and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. The CF Foundation tirelessly pursues this mission by supporting innovative research dedicated to discovering and developing new therapies and by funding and accrediting specialized care centers to treat people with the disease.

The CF Foundation is one of the most efficient voluntary health organizations of its kind and is consistently recognized by such magazines as Forbes and SmartMoney for its innovative approach to curing a disease.

Never before in the history of the CF Foundation has the feeling of optimism for defeating CF been so great. Progress has been made in the fight against this disease because the CF Foundation has seized every opportunity to support the best minds in science and to recruit the finest team of caregivers to the CF cause.

By supporting the CF Foundation, you are investing in the lives of those with CF. Working together, we can give the children and adults with CF the quality of life and the future that they deserve.
